Rencontres Musicales d’Évian Festival in France

Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica are performing at Rencontres Musicales d’Évian Festival in the legendary Grange au Lac hall.
On the shores of Lake Geneva, at the heart of the Evian resort and spa town, the Rencontres Musicales d’Évian welcome musicians and music lovers for a whole festive week.

XI Kremerata Baltica festival RIGA’S STARS

On 2nd – 5th of July the XI Kremerata Baltica festival Riga’s Stars is inviting all classical music lovers to Riga and Sigulda from all over Latvia and other countries! Several concerts from the cycle „Born in Riga” will take place during the festival, as this year Riga is the European Capital of Culture.

Festival program:

July 2nd at Splendid Palace cinema in Riga: official presentation of the book „A Letter to a Young Pianist” by Gidon Kremer. Later that night – the premier of the film „Gidon’s Riga” dedicated to Gidon Kremer.

July 3rd at the Great Guild concert hall in Riga: in cooperation with “Riga 2014″ and the team of “Lipke memorial”, Kremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer offer a concert „Zanis and Johanna. Love.” For the first time in Latvia together with scenographer Reinis Suhanovs Kremerata Baltica will perform the piece „Midnight in Riga” by Arturs Maskats, which is specially dedicated to Zanis Lipke and Johanna Lipke with soloists Gidon Kremer (violin), Giedre Dirvanauskaite (violoncello), and Andrei Pushkarev (vibraphone). Also in the program: Second violin concerto „The American Four Seasons” (2009) by Philip Glass, and Chamber Symphony No.2 Op.147 (1987) by Mieczyslav Weinberg.

July 4th, Sigulda concert hall Baltais Flīģelis: in the concert „Masters and Master Works” Kremerata Baltica will perform together with Lauma Skride (piano).

July 5th, Sigulda concert hall Baltais Flīģelis: closing concert of the festival „Time for Schubert: Love and Loneliness” will take place. Performance together with Riga’s Stars Baiba Skride (violin), Ksenija Sidorova (accordion), and a nine-year-old Daniil Bulajev (violin).

An exceptional performance of Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica supplemented with video projections!

In the program you will hear excerpts from “The Art of Instrumentation: A Tribute to Glenn Gould” – works of J. S. Bach inspired by and dedicated to one of the most celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century, the legendary performer of J. S. Bach – Glenn Gould.

With Gidon Kremer there is only one step from J. S. Bach to A. Piazzolla! Later in the program – Suite Punta del Este by Astor Piazzolla, where original bandoneon is replaced with a vibraphone (Andrei Pushkarov). The evening is completed with Second Violin Concerto “The American Four Seasons” by Philip Glass. Inspired by A. Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, the work of P. Glass enables the listener to decide which part of the piece represents specific season of the year.

During the concert you will see video projections by Jonas Mekas (*1922), a filmmaker, poet and artist of Lithuanian origin who has often been called “the godfather of American avant-garde cinema,” Rimas Sakalauskas (*1985), youngest generation video artist from Lithuania; Adam Magyar (*1972), Berlin-based Hungarian photographer; and Pingo van der Brinkloev, Danish high end visual effects artist.
