Marie Helen Aavakivi
Marie-Helen Aavakivi acquired a Master’s Degree cum laude as a violinist in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) in 2012. In the same year she became a member of the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, where she works to this day and in the composition of which has given nearly 300 concerts in renowned concert halls all over Europe, South and North America, many Asian and Middle East countries and has recorded several CD-s. A set of CD-creations by Mieczyslaw Weinberg qualified for Grammy nomination in the category “Best Classical Collection” in 2014 and a CD of Shostakovich’s piano concerts (soloist Anna Vinnitskaja) won German ECHO Klassik prize in the category “Best Modern Orchestra Recording” in 2016.
Marie-Helen Aavakivi has belonged to the European Union Youth Orchestra (in 2010 Principal Second Violin) for many years, and has also worked in the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra (TCO), and in the Symphony Orchestra of Estonian National Opera as the Principal Second.
Marie-Helen has participated in Master Classes of Zakhar Broni, Marianne Boettcheri, Irina Botškova, Mihhail Gaisleri and Mi-Kyung Lee. As a soloist she has performed with the TCO, and symphony orchestras of EAMT and TMHS (Tallinn Music High School). At present, Aavakivi studies in doctoral program of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Professors Urmas Vulp, Marje Lohuaru and Kristel Pappel. She is a member of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians and a scholar of Foundation of Estonian National Culture since 2015.
